Caring
Australia is an ancient land that has been isolated from other continents for a long time. It is has developed unique plants and animals seen no where else in the world. We need to give careful consideration to protect Australia's natural environment. Our national parks and reserves are places that are different from the rest of the world. Since settlement 200 years ago we have created many problems that need to be resolved.
The most well-known Dr. Seuss quote is about caring, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." This quote, from The Lorax, emphasizes the importance of individual action and responsibility in making a positive change in protecting our natural environment.
A very high percentage (97%) of Australians surveyed want more action to protect nature and conserve biodiversity. Up to 80% of Australians go on holidays where nature is the main focus. So let's all do our bit to "care for country" in our neighbourhood, in the Dandenong Ranges.
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and acknowledge their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to the people, the cultures and the Elders past and present. Let's join with all Australians in caring for Country.
